The prayers and mantras are believed to be blown by the wind to spread the good will and compassion into the surrounding area and all beings to bring benefit to all. They say that as the wind passes over the surface of the flags, the air is purified and sanctified by the mantras.
The five colors are arranged from left to right in a specific order representing the five elements and the Five Pure Lights: blue (sky and space), white (air and wind), red (fire), green (water), and yellow (earth).
